About laguna beach silks
Welcome and thanks for checking out my website. I'm Cindy Stalnaker, a Laguna Beach, California artist. Every summer and winter, I exhibit at the Sawdust Art Festival. Although I started out years ago creating fused glass pieces, I've branched out into water-marbled and hand-dyed silks.
The process of water-marbling involves floating paint drops on a gel-thickened water bath. I use a variety of rakes and combs to drag through the paint drops, creating traditional patterns as well as abstract expressions of color and movement. No two pieces are alike. The prepared silk scarf is then printed right off of the water surface. After 24 hours of drying, the design is permanently heat-set. All scarves are hand-washable and can be ironed on the reverse.
